I wanted to know your worst online dating tales, and you had some doozies. As I read through them (and apologies that I could not fit them all into one column), the immortal words of Richard Brautigan came to mind -- the coda to a story about a woman who wreaked romantic havoc in the lives of many of his friends. He works out of Brooklyn, NY and Springfield, MA, but has worked all over the comedy network. He has appeared on BET’s Comic View; shared the stage with comedians such as Tommy Davidson, Mike Epps and John Witherspoon; and just recently opened for Donnell Rawlings aka Ashy Larry.
From his recent awareness he can no longer be a 30 year old in a 50-something year old's body to his hilarious experiences on the dating front, Artie is sure to bring tears to your eyes- tears of laughter that is.
But something—or someone—i A non-fiction cross between Bridget Jones' Diary and Sex and the City, this is a humorous dating guide by a 30-something woman willing to try almost anything to find the right partner for her Sarah Bridge is smart, successful, and single.
As a newspaper journalist, she has a hectic day job and a busy social life, and is perfectly happy with both. Embarking on a quest to find her soulmate, she tries everything from speed-dating and wine-tasting to Scottish dancing and singles holidays, island-hopping and army assault courses to self-help books and fortune-telling. And how will she feel after putting herself, and her heart, out there?
I would have loved the opportunity to go on the holidays she took just for the experience, never mind the manhunting aspect!
I do agree with her about the fault in internet dating etc - in my experience you kind of fall for people when you aren't expecting it, but when you set out to make it happen the whole thing feels a bit like sitting an exam you are doomed to fail.
I'm also pretty certain that the reason that Sarah - an attractive and highly successful young woman - failed in her quest is that she in reality is interested only in a small subset of men who met her very high expectations (interesting to read a review here from one of her 'dates' giving his perspective).
